Evolutionary PV module production:
from an isolated work cell to an integrated, fully automated manufacturing line.
Lutz Gerold, Maschinenbau GEROLD GmbH & Co. KG, Nettetal, Germany
Abstract
The manufacturing approach suggested by GEROLD will device an engineering concept which allows the PV-module producer to start with autarkic production cells to perfectly control and refine the individual process steps in module production before linking such cells to an integrated, fully automated module production line. What is the scientific innovation and relevance? Manual processes and production steps are translated into autarkic production cells. The automated production cells permit active setting, monitoring and adjustment of process parameters. Examples brought to the market are e.g. edge-trimming cells, quality control cells, automated framing cells. Over time, and as the process and module production mature, the individual production cells are fully automated by integrating industrial robots. By linking former cells with appropriate handling equipment and automation, fully automated, integrated module production lines are set up. Process monitoring and data management are permitted by means of appropriate computer and visualization systems.
