The laser beam precisely heats the glass followed by a cold jet of air or an air / liquid mixture. This thermally induced tension causes a precise fissuring of the glass. This results in a maximum quality cut in terms of edge quality and strength. The laser scribing method differs from the scribing method using wheels due to obsolete further processing steps like grinding or washing.
Our DLC Series is based on this laser technology.
Advantages:
- Maximum yield by minimum waste material
- Very thin glass (e.g. 100µm) with high yield
- Closed inside contours possible
- Precise and highly accurate cut edge with highest edge strength
- Optical glass edge quality
- No micro cracks, fragmentation or chipping
- No material loss during / after cutting process
- No particles, thus laser cut glass is adequate for cleanroom applications

MDI cutting wheels are well known for high and stable quality
and additionally long lifetime.
Beside our conventional wheels made of tungsten carbide or polycrystalline diamond we also offer the innovative Penett®
and APIO® wheels with unique capabilities.
Small notches along the burr of our Penett® perform a scribe with a vertical crack of up to 90% of the glass thickness, which effectively simplifies or even eliminates the breaking process. The Micro Penett® is preferable for thin glass cutting up to 0.40mm thickness.
This APIO® cutting wheel enables a very high yield and a higher edge strength than conventional wheels independent from the glass type. In addition cracks at starting zones and crossing points can be avoided due to the special grinding.

Job Shops with Innovative Technologies
We offer you processing and cutting of small batches according to your requirements by wheel or laser technology.
Patterning and Marking by Laser or Needle Technology
We can offer both, laser and mechanical tool technology, for glass substrates up to 600mm x 1200 mm, processed on our granite-based machine with highest accuracy, for job shops.
CO2 Laser Cutting
We offer laser scribing and breaking of flat glass resulting in glass blanks with a scribing accuracy of ± 25µm, a zero clearance and no microcracks, which make further processing steps such as washing, grinding and polishing needless.
Processing by Green Laser
We offer drilling, cutting and patterning on one and the same machine. In most cases we can refrain from handling as all process steps can be performed with one tool.
Wheel Cutting
Scribing and breaking of flat glass with our patented Penett® wheel technology.
Analysis and Measuring
Software-based analysis and electronical measurement of substrates up to 300mm x 400mm with an accuracy of ± 3µm.
Bending Tests
3- and 4-point-bending tests for evaluation of edge strength;
bending force up to 10kN.
